"A business without a sign, is a sign of no business," so we've heard. Nowadays, more and more commercial establishments and non-profit organizations are beginning to realize the importance of having a website -- of having a web presence on the internet. Even religious denominations and local churches have now begun to join the bandwagon.
Not Much Local Church Websites
When I began to make a website for the Worldwide Church of God (WCG) in the Philippines in 2004, there were not that much church websites that can be found on the internet for the Philippines. But now, it's a different story. More and more local churches, para-churches, mission agencies and denominations are now having their own websites. Internet evangelism or web ministry has now become part of "doing ministry" in the local church -- at least for some large denominations -- but for many, the budget allocated for web ministry is sorely low or nothing at all. It's a low priority for many.
Internet Evangelism, Cybermissions
When I began an e-mail newsletter for the WCG Philippines sometime in the year 2000, internet evangelism for many in the local churches was unheard of. Now, everyone's doing it. The internet is truly a new "mission field!" Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Yahoo groups, e-mails, text messages -- you name it -- all are now being used to share the gospel.
Free Web Hosting and Free Websites
Actually, a local church can make their own website for free by using WordPress, Blogger or some other free sites. Any local church can actually start their own web ministry or internet evangelism department and thus help spread the good news on the internet.
